So there it was: the biggest mango we had ever seen – almost 4 pounds of fruit bounty!  Could this be the BIGGEST MANGO IN THE WORLD????!!!! Or perhaps the BIGGEST MANGO IN HISTORY????!!!!

The internet says there are bigger ones out there.

Thanks again, internet, for ruining the magic.

After an afternoon of fun with friends in the Islands people will usually exchange contacts to reconnect later.  Then someone will ask if they can get a selfie with you.  If they are quick, they can snap a pic and avoid detection, but usually someone else wants to join in.  Then you have to call someone to hold the camera, then there’s a mad rush as everyone wants to get in on the action – after all, when it goes up on FB that a bunch of cool people spent the afternoon drinking mango juice, speaking English and listening to rap music, you want your face in there.  Soon, whatever was happening is abandoned while everyone takes pictures and strikes poses and hijacks each other’s phone to make sure they are prominent.

That’s what it’s like.

In some countries practicing medicine without a license is illegal… but here it would be a crime to NOT practice medicine when visiting a sick or injured friend! 

That is why my knee has been scrubbed with tree sap. 

Will my leg hair survive?  Who knows.  At least I know I’m loved.
