Hiking the volcano
One of the last things the girls wanted to do before we left the Islands was climb the mountain. This was a good test for my knee--six weeks after tearing the ligaments.
It took about 7 hours up, and 3 hours down to where we took a truck the rest of the way. We camped in the crater, ate wild strawberries along the way, and were amazed by the views. The knee did fine… turns out the rest of my body, however, is old.
The volcano is perhaps the only place on this island where you could feel cold. Jen wore her pajamas and I traded my hat for a bandana, because, if your hat blows into a river of lava, let it go, man… ‘cause it’s gone!
