Night reefing

I like to go out on the reef at night with a neighbor who’s a fisherman.  He stands on the reef and throws out his line, while I put on a mask and jump in with a flashlight and a sharpened piece of rebar to look for seafood.  I’ve gotten lobster, squid, octopus, and fish.  This past week I got a “Titan” Triggerfish, which was worthy of a photo—especially its inch-long rat-like teeth.

I have also been experimenting with the local art of making “octopus jerky.”  The best I can figure is that this is a way where you can enjoy the smell of old octopus for days at a time while not actually eating the octopus.
